About MJ Cabinet makers
“My love for wood began early in my childhood when I used to whittle sticks. I always dreamed of one day designing and making furniture. I left school at the age of sixteen, completed a joinery apprenticeship and then worked for a local Cabinetmaker. In April 2000, I took the first step to fulfilling my dream, and began working on my own when I established MJ Cabinetmakers.
I now employ two full time makers, an apprentice and a part-time finisher. The team now works from a purpose built workshop at Braithwaite, near Keswick, which has a magnificent view of Skiddaw. My family and I had the honour of the Prince of Wales visiting the workshop in March 2005, when it opened. We are currently in the process of also building a Showroom at the workshop for customers to visit.
The simple principle of strong design and quality in making has built our reputation over the years. A piece of furniture should be beautiful as well as functional. This is always the priority when beginning a new piece.”
